Looking at the few knick-knacks I own made me realize something; everything is language. Let me explain.

The knight figurine with the sword letter opener says something about me. So, too, does the incense burner, the inkwells and calligraphy pens, wax seals and stamps. But this isn't just limited to my space.

Even the landscape outside, the buildings, the forests and abandoned dog track—everything communicates meaning, story, warning, an invitation. Language communicates ideas in more ways than just one. You just have to find the message.

**Read one non-word "text" around you—a cloud's shape, a stranger's eyes, the pattern of cracks in the sidewalk—and jot down what it seems to say to you.**
